The Standing Committee on Pro Bono and Public Service is pleased to announce that the nomination process for the 2009 ABA Pro Bono Publico Awards is now open.
The Pro Bono Publico Awards were established by the American Bar Association in 1984 to recognize lawyers and law firms for extraordinary noteworthy contributions to extending legal services to the poor and disadvantaged. The recipients exemplify the volunteer tradition of the legal profession. Each year the Pro Bono Committee presents five awards to individual lawyers and institutions in the legal profession that have demonstrated outstanding commitment to volunteer legal services. The awards will next be presented at the Pro Bono Publico Awards Luncheon on Monday, August 3, 2009 at the ABA Annual Meeting in Chicago.
Nomination guidelines and criteria can be found at www.abanet.org/legalservices/probono /pbp_nomination_guidelines.html. You will also find there the link to the on-line nomination form.
We strongly encourage you to consider nominating the pro bono heroes from your community. If you have any questions about the nomination procedure or about a potential nominee's eligibility, please contact Meaghan Cotter at firstname.lastname@example.org.
