Court turns to social networking for updates

Sunday, August 23, 2009

Following the lead of bloggers and law enforcement, the New Jersey judiciary is turning to social media, like Facebook and Twitter, to deliver up-to-the-minute news and updates to litigants, lawyers and others who use the courts.
The initiative, announced last week, will alert users to snow closings, new court rules, changes in high-level positions and other news. Anyone can sign up at www.njcourts.com to have the messages sent directly to their cell phones or other handheld devices.
Changes in scheduling are significant because litigants and defendants face consequences if they miss court dates.
