The halls are stark and unwelcoming, the courtroom protocol rigid.


There are long lines, dense case files and standard forms that sometimes read like they're in a foreign language.

And for those with any personal, emotional stake in the proceedings, visits to the Sonoma County Hall of Justice are often overwhelming, painful or just plain scary.

So there's a need for volunteer workers like Miriam Diaz and Claudia Wood, folks who spend time at the courthouse precisely to ease prospective jurors and others through the process with directions, pointers and other help.
